Silent Touch

Silent Touch explores how the artist as curator can combine the visuals of ceramic sculpture with the haptic perception of touch. Through her practice based research, Maikki Toivanen, an Art and Design (Honours) candidate of the University of Canberra, investigates the potential of touch within the gallery space.

Toivanen furthers this connection to nature, through the Wunderkammer display of objects which have served as inspiration for her ceramic sculptures, opening a dialogue to the haptic. This utilises the innate sense of touch to combine narratives of nature, place and the act of collecting as a means of acknowledging the ephemeral and delicate properties of life.
